Over 5,000 international scientists live and work here, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory has a plan in place to increase that community by 5% each year. Tennessee’s ‘05 budget commits an unprecedented $10 million, to be matched by $10 million from ORNL, to attract additional scientists of “academy-level status” for joint positions at ORNL and UT.
The benefit of this concentrated wealth of accumulated knowledge and expertise is not only a knowledge base that optimizes the benefits of our state-of-the-art user facilities, but also that many of these scientists will offer side-by-side partnerships and shared experiences to facility users. In fact, that’s part of their job.
